It ALL STARTED HERE...
As a doctor within the NHS, navigating the ever-changing currents of healthcare for nearly a decade. Over the years, I've witnessed both the triumphs and tribulations that come with caring for patients within our system. However, it was a personal journey that truly opened my eyes to the potential need for change.
In 2018, my father's battle with a brain tumour shook the foundation of our family. Despite numerous surgeries and the best care offered at the time, the tumour persisted, leaving him weakened with each procedure.
This experience, coupled with the strains of everyday life in healthcare, led me to reflect deeply on the shortcomings of our current system and how we deserve much better from the advancements in technology and healthcare out there.
I couldn't help but ask myself What I would give to be able to look into the future and predict my risk of chronic disease. That would definitely be a game changer.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst for this introspection, prompting me to search for alternative approaches to healthcare. It was during this period of reflection that I stumbled upon the concept of Personalized Wellness and Precision medicine. A path that offered hope amidst the challenges of a reactive healthcare system and focus on wellness and longevity. That is when I decided to start GeneGPS as a means to provide a stepping stone into the world of precision medicine.
